Mentoring v coaching
I often get asked what is the difference between a professional mentor or coach. The following is my definition:
Mentor: Builds capabilities through developing a relationship. Through imparting knowledge, experience and drawing similarities. Lets formal engagement.
Coach: Is goals and performance based. Set a target and the success factor is to perform to achieve that goal. Formal almost a consultancy basis.
Mentoring
This is the most personal and impactful offering, nurturing someone through the career objectives whilst maintaining balance between personal and professional lives, which even today something that I must work on constantly.
I conduct mentoring sessions Face to Face and Virtually.
I limit the number of mentee’s I take on in any given year, to ensure I can give the required focus to the relationship.
